Internal Medicine Residency Program
|St. Elizabeth Internal Medicine Residency is a three-year, fully accredited ACGME program meeting all of the requirements of the American Board of Internal Medicine. |
The residency is affiliated with the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OUHCOM). Residents receive training in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient management, invasive and noninvasive procedures and all subspecialty areas. This prepares them for the diverse challenges of medical practice.
Rotations include six months of general internal medicine, one month of ambulatory medicine, three months of medical intensive care unit and two elective rotation blocks.
Residents are exposed to subspecialty rotations emphasizing acquisition of in-depth specialty knowledge. Rotations include four months of subspecialty electives, one month of emergency medicine, one month of electives in neurology and geriatrics, three months of general medicine and a six week block in the coronary intensive care unit.
Rotations include four months of subspeciality electives, one month electives in office medicine and PM & R, three months of general medicine and a six-week block of rotations in consult medicine and medical intensive care.
The ambulatory care clinic has more than 3,000 active patients with over 8,000 clinic visits per year. Each resident cares for a panel of patients in the clinic, one half day per week, and serves as the patient’s primary care physician throughout his / her residency. There are also hospital follow-up clinics, urgent care and rapid follow-up clinics.
