Internal Medicine Residency
Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. Ohio. This three-year program is approved by the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Internists for 8 positions. The Interim Program Director is Ted Alexander, DO. St. Joseph Health Center is a 219 bed, level III trauma center offering a wide variety of services.
The goal of our program is to provide hands-on training in the application of preventative medicine, medical diagnosis, patient management, and hospital and clinical procedures with the integration of osteopathic principles. Graduates will be well prepared for board certification in Internal Medicine and will be competent to practice in the hospital or ambulatory setting.
Residents in our program receive training in a wide spectrum of clinical and procedural experiences. Ambulatory continuity of care experience is achieved through the St. Joseph Community Care Clinic which utilizes the EPIC electronic medical record system. Residents benefit from direct attending to resident teaching, as well as didactic activities including formal lectures, Internal Medicine board review, RPAC, skills labs with Sim-Man, tumor board, and journal clubs. Residents are actively involved in teaching by mentoring osteopathic medical students and giving lectures. Elective rotations and research experiences are available, as approved by the program director. Each resident will complete a research project prior to graduation.
The program is also affiliated with St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio, a level I trauma center, for certain specialty rotations.
We welcome your call or visit. We would, at that time, be able to more fully explain our program, benefit package and orient you to our facility.
